It's hard being a Mom!

Riley is 4 1/2 months old now and most of the time she is pure joy. However, it is the hardest thing I've ever done...taking care of her. She is a very demanding baby and requires a lot of attention. If her eyes are open and you aren't entertaining her she gets very mad. She likes to be held a certain way and can't stand to be put down. She will let me lay her down on a play mat or bouncy seat if I sit right next to her and don't move. Her smiles do make it worth all the trouble, but I can't help but long for the day that she can entertain herself and I can do a load of laundry. How sad is that? I am longing to do a load of laundry!!

On a positive note....Riley is really growing. She can almost sit up and talks constantly. She has starting humming when she doesn't want to go to sleep. I like this a lot better than the crying. It's pretty cute when she can barely keep hers eyes open and she is humming as long as she can so she won't fall asleep. I guess to her, life is so exciting that she doesn't want to miss a single minute! Last night she ate solid food and didn't spit it all over herself. That was a huge milestone! She gets the funniest look on her face when she eats green beans. She can't decide if she likes it or not. She smacks her lips together and gets a real serious look on her face and then smiles so big that it's got to hurt her cheeks. I imagine anything tastes better than formula.

I do know that being a Mom isn't supposed to be the easiest thing I ever did. I don't expect it to all be smooth sailing. But, I do wish for the days to come where it seems like everything isn't completely out of control. I can't wait to be able to sit down and eat a meal without having to walk between bites because Riley is bored. I wonder where she gets that from????

These pictures make me feel bad for complaining. Look at that smile!!!

Brown and Cal

Callieann and Charlie Brown are my two little angels! I love them both so much. Everyone said that Dave and I wouldn't love our dogs as much once we had a baby. Nothing offended us and hurt our feelings more. And it wasn't true at ALL! We love them just as much and treat them exactly the same as we did before Riley got here. Here's a little about them both.

Callieann:

Callie is my first born. I was there when she was conceived and when she was born. She had a cowlick on her neck and I decided to name her Callie. All my dogs have the middle name Ann so she became Callieann. I brought her home when she was 7 weeks old. She was a crazy puppy. She got into everything! She was in trouble a lot, but I wouldn't trade her for anything. I noticed right away that she was very smart. She learned all the normal dog commands very early. Callie was a great hunter, but I am not interested in hunting. She went a few times, but I don't find standing out in the cold killing birds enjoyable. The only weird thing about Calllie is her obsession with fetch. It is out of control and she needs to seek professional help for this issue. She can't stop even when she's tired and can't stand anymore. If you throw a toy she will go get it. She also demands that you keep her chasing a toy when she is awake and full of energy. She will drop a toy on your lap and make a huge scene until you finally throw it to get her off your back. This only starts over again once she gets it. My advice to anyone who visits our home: DON'T THROW THE BALL!!! And if you do.... you're on your own. Consider yourself warned.

Charlie Brown:

Brown dog came into our life after Dave and I got engaged. Dave wasn't nearly as crazy about dogs as I was and I thought if he got a puppy he would feel that connection that I did. He picked Charlie out from a rescue organization in Oklahoma and we drove to pick her up. We also convinced my sister, Leslie, to get a puppy for her daughter, Taylor. Charlie had one litter mate left and we picked her up as well. We named them Charlie Brown and Lucy. Charlie Brown is a girl. Yes, we know it's a boy's name and we don't care. My plan to make Dave a dog lover like myself worked......almost too good. He not only adores Charlie, she is his boss. What Charlie wants Charlie gets. Dave worships her. He carries her around like a baby, rocks her to sleep and would freakin' spoon feed her if she required it. I noticed when Brown was only a few months old that she smiles. It's not just her lips getting caught on her teeth or an overbite. She actually smiles. She peels her lips back and grins really big whenever she's excited or in trouble. It's so cute! Most people think she is snarling, but it's really a big, fat grin. Mrs. Brown is our bad seed. She does whatever she wants whenever she wants. She's very lucky she is so darn cute because otherwise she would have had to pack her bags and get out a long time ago.

These two dogs are the best of friends. They struggled to get along at first, but now can't survive without one another. They play together, sleep together, walk together. You name it they do it TOGETHER. Cal could sometimes do without Brown hanging on her neck, but I know she couldn't live a day without her little Brown Dog.

Baby Riley finally makes her debut.

Riley Rae Brozenic was born on November 23rd, 2007 at 7:50pm. I was in labor for 17 hours (that was NOT fun!) and was ready for her to finally get here. I was not the glowing, happy, on cloud 9 pregnant girl most women are. I actually struggled with being pregnant. It was problem free and very smooth, but just hard for me to handle. I was never happier than when my water broke at 2:43 in the morning. After a very long day at the hospital Riley was born perfectly healthy. The second she was born I couldn't take my eyes off of her. She was BEAUTIFUL!!! Dave and I worried that we would be one of those parents that thought their baby was cute when she really wasn't (we all know someone like that), but thankfully she was stunning (and we don't care if we are the only ones that think that!). I stared at her for several hours fascinated by her. Every move she made gave me butterflies. I couldn't stop touching her and kissing her. Dave held her constantly and was very proud. This was when his life finally changed. Mine changed the day I found out I was pregnant. His changed that day forever. We took her home two days later and started our life as a family.

Welcome to the Brozenic Family Blog

I have recently discovered how hard it is to keep family and friends informed of our lives. As most of you know, Dave and I are new parents. We had Riley November 23, 2007. Being new parents we are learning, the hard way, that having free time to chat with friends, watch TV and SLEEP is a thing of the past. We want so much for everyone to share in the joy of our daughter and all the changes she is going through every day. We also happen to be parents to two of the most amazing dogs on the planet. Callie, who happens to be the smartest dog I know, is our 4 year old German Short Hair Pointer. Charlie Brown (aka Brown dog, Mrs. Brown, and Bad Brown) is our Beagle Dachshund mix who is 2 years old. They are also very big parts of our family. Please enjoy the posts and wish me luck at keeping this up to date!
